Tropical birds: bright plumage and song in the Naturospace greenhouse

At Naturospace Honfleur, tropical birds roam freely in a large aviary recreating the conditions of an equatorial forest.

Temperature, humidity and botanical richness allow us to welcome species from Southeast Asia, Oceania and the Pacific Islands in an environment close to their natural habitat.

This tropical immersion, punctuated by songs, ground movements and short flights through the vegetation, invites attentive observation while offering an educational approach accessible to all audiences.

Raising awareness of the fragility of tropical forests

These tropical species are closely dependent on dense, well-preserved forests. Deforestation, habitat fragmentation and human pressures directly threaten their survival. By observing these birds evolve freely in a reconstituted environment, the public becomes aware of the fragility of these remote ecosystems.

Naturospace makes this discovery part of an approach to raising awareness of the need to protect biodiversity.

Observing the natural behaviors of tropical birds

In this bird park, birdwatchers discover a wide range of behaviours, often invisible in an artificial environment.

Crowned rollers, small partridges from the equatorial forests of Asia, move mainly on the ground, while porphyry ptilopes, rare and colorful tropical doves, move more discreetly in the vegetation.

These differences in lifestyle illustrate the richness and complementarity of species within tropical ecosystems.

The aviary is home to a selection of tropical birds with colorful plumage and varied behaviors.

Among the species present, visitors can observe Gould's diamonds, or the Victoria goura, an impressive ground pigeon with a large crest of finely serrated feathers.

The diversity continues with small species of multicolored parrots, such as Papuan lorises and Blue-headed Coryllis, lively, playful and expressive birds typical of Pacific forests and islands.

All these rare species have undergone a period of adaptation to evolve in the best possible conditions in the greenhouse's tropical forest and cohabit with the hundreds of tropical butterflies.

A walk punctuated by the sounds and movements of the rainforest

In our Normandy rainforest, alongside tropical butterflies, discovering tropical birds at Naturospace is like taking an attentive stroll through an animated landscape.

Songs, colors and short flights create a lively, ever-changing atmosphere, where each visit is unique.

Observation invites us to slow down, look up and pay attention to details, which reveal the diversity of behaviors and interactions between species.

This sensitive, step-by-step approach enables the public to gain a better understanding of the richness and fragility of the tropical world, in a soothing, accessible setting in the heart of Honfleur, Normandy.
